This drawing is a remake of an older, scanned sketch of a vampiric couple. The first time I sketched this I was thinking about the Netflix Castlevania show, and how it depicted Dracula and Lisa Tepes. It is such a sweet version of them.
But you can fill the details with any classical romantic or goth heroine, I guess! An alternative-universe Mina Murray/Harker?
Your self-insert? Is your self-insert Dracula? Who knows!
Process, old version and WIP
In the new drawing I polished all details and went for a wider, more dramatic silhouette.
Here is the old version:
Images’ long descriptions
First image
A grayscale digital sketch drawing of a vampire kissing a woman. Some elements are painted a bright, flat-toned red. The lines resemble ink, and the background has faded, low-opacity close-up of their kiss. Their full-bodies are depicted. The vampire man, to the left of the image, holds his dark cape up with his right hand. His cloak waves in the air and forms an angular bat or draconic wing shape. He has thick, curly and long black hair, angular eyebrows, and a goatee. He wears an intricately-drawn white vest with a red sash wrapped around his wait. He wears knee-high laced-up boots and his white trousers have a stripe with roses embroidered in them. His outfit is reminiscent of a toreador costume. The woman leans towards him. She wears a red blazer and skirt with pantyhose and tall high-heels. One of the shoes is about to fall from her toes, as she bent her leg up. Her left hand rests on the vampire’s vest, at the height of his ribs. The nails are painted red. Her hair is in a loosely-secured bun and is light-colored. The vampire’s left hand cradles the woman’s nape, with fingers touching her hair and ear.
Second image: A close-up
Close-up of a grayscale digital sketch drawing of a vampire kissing a woman. Some elements are painted a bright, flat-toned red. The lines resemble ink, and the background has faded sketch lines. Their busts are depicted. The vampire man, to the left of the image, holds his dark cape up with his right hand, almost as if sheltering the couple. He has thick, curly, frizz-y and long black hair, angular eyebrows, long eyelashes and a goatee. There is a drop of red paint on his eyelashes. He wears a noble, luxury-looking white vest with a red sash wrapped around his wait. His outfit is reminiscent of a toreador costume. The woman leans towards him. She wears a red blazer. Her left hand rests on the vampire’s vest, at the height of his ribs. The nails are painted red. Her hair is in a loosely-secured bun and is light-colored. The vampire’s left hand cradles the woman’s nape, with fingers touching her hair and ear.”
Third image: The original version
A scanned grayscale and red pencil sketch. A couple kiss — the man wears some sort of a bat-wing-shaped cape, and the woman wears a blazer, skirt, and high-heels.
Patreon and Prints
My patrons had access to WIPs and a hi-res file of the old version. I plan to upload the new hi-res file here soon as well.
Another way to get this artwork is via my print shop.
Enjoy!
Bonus Renfield
This is a digital painting from 2009-2008… ish. Back when I had just read Dracula and lost my mind at its epistolary format.
Minor spoilers ahead:
In Dr. John Seward’s chapters he is overseeing Renfield, an asylum resident who has a compulsion to eat living creatures and drink blood. The details are hazy now, but I think there was a scene in which Renfield sat in the snow outside Dracula’s castle, looking for approval and eternal life.
