‘Date Pies’ is a beloved Dragon Age project started in 2021 as a social-isolation-meets-portfolio project. It’s a Dragon Age Origins fanfiction (Ao3) coupled with illustrations for some of its characters and scenes.
Since posting this I have new batches of drawings made for this same fanfic.
I took a lot of creative liberties, but it was immensely fun to indulge in DA lore (including canon foods and dishes!!) and to fill some vague or empty spaces with my headcanons, costumes, and character designs.
The fanfic – ‘Date Pies’
Summary
The story is a lore-friendly retelling (with occasional Epistolary moments) of the Arl of Redcliffe and Landsmeet quests timeline. Kallian Tabris/City Elf warden and Bann Teagan take their flirtatious banter further and start a romantic relationship as the world is collapsing around them.
Content warnings: Typical DA violence, blood, gets smutty in chapter 17 (of course it does!)
“Bella’s place has a new balcony upstairs,” the man said tentatively, “Good view to the woods. Quieter. The rain stopped.”
Chapter 13: Lamb Stew
Kallian raised an eyebrow to the wall, her lips curling slightly, “Must be charming.”
“Alas, if only you could see it for yourself.”
She turned to face him, squinting and tapping nails at the table. He understood she did that when thinking and didn’t move, waiting.
“Alright. I’ll need a guide to find this balcony. Know a Bann that could help me?”
Dragon Age Inquisition — Trespasser Teagan
So! Here is a story.
An older Bann Teagan appears (as an Arl) in Dragon Age Trespasser, and his 3D character model is a reuse of Gregory Dedrick, another NPC who is the mayor of Crestwood.
Needles to say, the community noticed it and criticized how he lost facial features from the early games. My first contact with Trespasser was via watching gameplays, and at first I didn’t even notice him.
I think his facial features didn’t stray too far from the original Teagan, taking into account the aging of the character, and his costume has some interesting designs. Parts of it resemble a tower shape, which makes sense considering the Guerrin’s heraldry is a tower. The costume is also worn and dirty — is it because he is assuming a battle-ready, defensive role against the Inquisition?
I wish I knew what the shield designs on his collar mean. Maybe they’re symbols of other bannorns, like Rainesfere?
In any case, I sketched a version of Trespasser Teagan with his signature hair and goatee, which aren’t present in the DLC.
My Dragon Age tag has more sketches (both for ‘Date Pies’ and other fanfiction!)
Shoutout to friends
A big big thank you to @shanaraharlyah for helping SO SO MUCH in inspiring me, motivation, AND revising the fanfiction (and being a dear friend overall!!!) She has her own fics and artworks in the DA universe — including a beautiful, compassionate and strong Surana — and I recommend her and her blog to anyone in the fandom. ♥ 🌿
