Fantasy scratchboard illustrations made for “The Earth Shrine”, a Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) book by Micah Rodney.
I’m always happy when clients want illustrations in this black-and-white engraved, scratchboard style. I’m inspired by tarot and oldschool RPG art, and artists like Gustave Doré, Walter Crane (The Faerie Queene), or the incredible Nico Delort.
Coupled with the single-page artworks, I drew a batch of smaller scenes and illustrations that would be used in game-over pages (a classic in CYOA stories!), page dividers and miscellaneous page decoration. This was an incredible collaboration overall.
KupoCon is a Final Fantasy fan event produced by fans, for fans. It is not endorsed, sanctioned or in any other way supported directly or indirectly by Square Enix, and its respected partners.
Software: Desktop Clip Studio Paint. Nowadays I’m using a Galaxy Tab and the CSP app to work on those kinds of pieces with intricate linework and it’s been a blast, really.
