Vampire: The Masquerade portrait

Finished portrait

A Vampire: The Masquerade portrait made for a client. We had to maintain the person’s likeness using a photo, while changing the lighting, gesture, accessories, and clothing to fit the client’s character needs, and also keeping in mind the dark mood of a Vampire setting.

An example of this realistic, dark mood are the illustrations for Vampire: The Eternal Struggle, by Black Chantry Productions.

This was a challenging, wonderful piece that taught me a lot and I’m super satisfied with the end result. Thank you Rafael!

WIPs

The overall process was a mixture of tracing from a photo (to keep absolute fidelity to the proportions), using 3D to set up the new lighting, more photo references as necessary (such as for the hand), mood references provided by the client, and intricate paintovers to reproduce their game’s hyper-realistic art style.
