The prompt of this illustration was to paint a pair of catapults or trebuchets. We decided to bring those to a fictional, modern scenario that would fit the game’s themes. Like a pair of siege weaponry hastily assembled for a protest, or to attack a creature.
Sao Paulo’s “charging bull”
Around the time of this painting, in November 2021, Sao Paulo’s headlines were about a golden bull that was illegally installed outside the stock exchange. Citizens organized protests around it, gluing messages about hunger and poverty onto its fiberglass structure.
I talked to the client about painting a golden, animated bull with an exposed skull as the catapult’s target. The tail curls, forming an infinity symbol.
