Warhammer art

A selection of Warhammer fantasy and 40k art.

Illustration of a Warhammer 40k Space Marine.
An Adeptus Astartes sketch.

Warhammer 40k art is 50% what got me into enjoying/making fantasy illustration (alongside WotC), although I never touched the tabletop nor a miniature, nor know much about its universe.

My relationship with the franchise has always been very… internal? No one I knew was into it, so I’d resort to reading info here and there and trying to get the details in an artwork right and figuring what each sigil/color/medal means.

Adrian Smith is one of my favorite artists and inspirations since I was a teen, thanks to his stunning Warhammer work.

In any case, studying the universe’s lore is certainly easier now, with the internet and wikis. 🙂

This started when I was deep into world wars, uniforms and the military. I’ve moved to other headspaces since then, but this shaped me and my work a lot.

It took me a while to learn that my favorite guys were named the Imperial Guard — and lately I’m going through a gold/red phase so really into Adeptus Custodians as well.

I remain a lore beginner, but now that I know more about the universe it is growing on me.

This tag compiles some of my Warhammer-related works.

Imperial Guards

A drawing of w40k imperial guards.
Line sketch.

Two guards taking a moment to rest. Lineart warmup I refined a bit further, below.

Got the perspective, poses and mood from a WWI photo in which the soldiers are cleaning their feet to avoid illnesses such as the “trench foot”.

Grayscale painting of 2 W40k Imperial Guard members
Grayscale sketch.

Adeptus Custodes Tribune

Portrait illustration of an adeptus custodes bearded old man.
I saw an Adeptus Custodes Tribune figure and felt like painting his portrait.

This Adeptus was painted during a live stream. The VOD and HI-RES are available to my patrons.
